Grace Street Storm Drain and Sewer Extension

Ehrhart Griffin and Associates was retained by the City of Omaha Planning Department to provide site design, culvert design and analysis, construction staking and construction management services for the extension of the triple 108-inch diameter culverts beneath Abbott Drive in Omaha, Nebraska.

The ditch and culverts discharge overflow from the combined sewer system of the Grace Street Storm Drain and North Interceptor Sewer to the Missouri River. The ditch enclosure project is a portion of the Omaha riverfront redevelopment effort for the Omaha Convention Center and Arena and the soon to be constructed Gallup Office Campus. EGA served as the lead consultant of a design team that involved geotechnical, structural, electrical and environmental engineering.

The culvert extension involved the use of a triple barrel 8-foot by 8-foot reinforced concrete box and triple 108-inch diameter reinforced concrete pipe. Included in the design of the culverts was a bar screen, rake and debris conveyor at the intake structure. The intake structure will remove some of the solids and floatable debris that finds its way into the sewer system.

As the existing ditch is part of the Missouri River Levee System, the project required a design that met or exceeded the US Army Corps of Engineers design criteria.
